  1. What is FSMK Camp?
  2. FSMK Camp is an annual industry-oriented technical residential camp hosted by Free Software Movement Karnataka to provide students a platform to learn Free Software technologies and tools. And oh, it is free as in free speech, not free biryani.

  3. Who can attend?
  4. This particular camp is open only for college students. However, to attend other similar workshops do sign up on our online discussion platform, FSMK Discuss to receive event updates.

  5. How is the camp organised?
  6. The camp will be divided into three tracks:

  7. What will we learn?

  9. When and where is the camp being held?
  10. Camp will be organised in RIT,Hassan from 22-27 of January 2018.

  11. Will this be a classroom session?
  12. We will be having mostly hands-on sessions where you can deploy what you learn on your system.

  17. Does registration confirm my seat?
  18. Registration is the first step. We shall shortlist participants once registration ends. Shortlisted participants need to pay the camp fee to confirm their seats. Seats shall be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, so we recommend paying the fee as soon as you are selected.

  19. How are participants shortlisted?
  20. The general selection criteria we follow are -

  21. Should we bring our laptops?
  22. Yes, it is preferable that you carry your own laptops. If you are unable to bring one, you may use the lab computers at the college.

  23. What other software/hardware should we come with?
  24. There are no prerequisites as we will be providing you with a GNU/Linux based operating system with all required software pre-installed and guide you through installation. For the hardware track, all requisite components and equipment will be provided.

  25. What about food?
  26. You will be provided with all four meals (and accommodation) during the course of the camp.

  27. Where will we stay?
  28. You will be provided accommodation in college hostels.

  29. What will I need to bring to the hostel? Here’s a non-exhaustive checklist we have made for you -

    Footballs, basketballs, cricket equipment, etc. Guitars and other musical instruments.

  31. Will I get a certificate?
  32. Yes, participants who attend all seven days of the camp will be given a certificate.

  33. What else does the registration cost include?
  34. The registration fee includes the cost of the workshop, certificate, and a Free Software kit which includes an FSMK T-shirt, a CD containing a GNU/Linux operating system, stickers, etc.

  35. Do I get a refund in case I do not attend the camp?
  36. No, the registration fee is non-refundable, as we plan our resources according to registrations.

  37. What happens after I attend the camp? Are there more things I can do with FSMK?
  38. Yes, the camp is just the beginning. FSMK will, with the cooperation of you and your friends, set up a GNU/Linux Users Group(GLUG) in your college, if you don’t have one already. From then on, we will help you hold regular events in your college with help of your department/college. FSMK also holds other events, celebrations and hackathons that you can participate in. Apart from this, we hold free workshops and sessions in Sunday School on a regular basis.
